National Fatherhood Initiative

National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI), founded in 1994, works in every sector and at every level of society to engage fathers in the lives of their children. NFI's mission is to improve the well-being of children by increasing the proportion of children with involved, responsible, and committed fathers.

NFI is one of the leading producers of research on the causes and consequences of father absence, public opinion on family issues, and trends in family structure and marriage. NFI's flagship research publication, Father Facts, is the leading source of fatherhood information and statistics for the press, public policy experts, and government officials. NFI's Mama Says: A National Survey of Mothers' Attitudes on Fathering, Pop's Culture: A National Survey of Dads'Attitudes on Fathering, and With This Ring: A National Survey on Marriage in America are three of the most comprehensive national surveys that have been published in recent years on American attitudes towards fatherhood and marriage.

NFI's national public service advertising campaign promoting father involvement generated television, radio, print, Internet, and outdoor advertising valued at over $500 million.

Through its resource center, FatherSOURCE(tm), NFI offers a wide range of innovative resources to assist fathers and organizations interested in reaching and supporting fathers. Since 2002, as a leading capacity-builder for fatherhood programs, NFI has trained over 6,500 practitioners from over 3,000 organizations - including businesses, prisons, churches, schools, community-based organizations, hospitals, and military installations - on how to deliver fatherhood programming to their communities. NFI's three flagship curricula are 24/7 Dad(tm) (to
teach fathers relationship, fathering, and communications skills), Doctor Dad(tm) (to teach fathers about safety and healthcare for infants and toddlers), and InsideOut Dad(tm) (to help incarcerated fathers stay connected to their children and to help fathers reentering their communities successfully integrate into their families and communities).

NFI is also the contractor for the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse and runs the National Responsible Fatherhood Capacity-Building Initiative for the federal government.

Through its weekly Dad E-mail(tm) service and website, www.fatherhood.org , NFI reaches thousands of fathers with information and insights on being the best dads they can be.
